How Heroes of the Storm 'Challenges the Genre'

Blizzard wants Heroes of the Storm matches to last 20 minutes, a panel of developers said during a BlizzCon 2013 presentation. In discussing how their upcoming MOBA challenges the norms of the genre. The team also detailed other notable features, including mounts with mobility bonuses, and playful character skins (Diablo + Murloc, Warcraft Heroes in StarCraft armor).

Additionally, teams earn levels in unison rather than individual characters leveling up. Blizzard also showed dedicated support Heroes, who aren't built to kill -- in the case of Abathur, who hides behind his team's gate, there are no abilities except support skills.

Blizzard also noted that Heroes of the Storm's maps will focus on its objectives, and won't feature traditional three-lane MOBA maps without them. Game director Dustin Browder doesn't expect these changes to disrupt high-level competitive play in Heroes of the Storm.
