How I Met: "Last Time in New York" Review
Oct 1st 2013, 04:25, by Max Nicholson

Warning: Full spoilers from the episode to follow.

With 52 hours to go, the gang had some time to kill, as Lily discovered Ted's list of things he wants to do before he leaves New York for Chicago. This kicked off a string of somewhat amusing flashbacks, including Ted fixing some graffiti ("You're* a penis."), buying the whole (read: empty) bar a round of drinks ("No doubles!"), and saying goodbye to the Empire State Building. ("An objectophiliac? No way.") While most of these bits were pretty humorous, the real gem in Ted's list was "Coming clean about April 26th," which featured a reprise from the swords -- that's right, those swords.

Shooting Begins on 22 Jump St
Oct 1st 2013, 03:55, by Lucy O'Brien

Principal photography has begun on 22 Jump St, the sequel to 2012's comedy blockbuster which will reunite stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller,  who made their live-action debut with 21 Jump St after the success of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, will reunite to direct the pair as they go about their undercover, odd-couple hi-jinks in college.

"Buddies who work together is a topic that is close to home for us," said the pair in a  press release. "We're looking forward to working with Channing and Jonah, Neal and our friends at Sony again to take these guys' relationship to the next level."

"We are grateful to our friends at Sony and MGM for letting us do another one," added Tatum and Hill. "We're proud to be working alongside Phil, Chris, Neal, Ice Cube, Korean Jesus and the rest of our amazing crew and cast. As we all know, sequels are ALWAYS better than the original. Every single time. This will be no exception. How are we still saying the exact same words at the same time?  This is crazy!  Jump Street!"

Scarlett Johansson Talks Captain America 2
Oct 1st 2013, 03:01, by Adam Dileo

Not content with a shout-out in the pilot episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Scarlett Johansson has taken a moment out of promoting her new movie, Don Jon, to talk Black Widow, Steve Rogers and, yes, form-fitting clothing. Turns out, skintight rubber suits? Not ideal for stunt work.

ScarJo (please let that nickname stick) recently sat down with the fashion-minded folks at Refinery 29 for an interview. (Don't act like you don't read it.) Buried amid the usual fluff - diet, workouts, nude scenes, blah blah blah - were a few tidbits about Captain America 2 and the actress' take on superhero cinema in general. Johansson is quoted as saying the majority of pre-Whedon superhero movies (at least with regard to female characters) "were simply not well made," which, um, okay. But don't worry! Natasha Romanov isn't all about "spinning through the air and putting your hands on your hips."

A recent system update from Nintendo adds a bunch of new features to Wii U, including the ability to output Wii games on the GamePad.

  • The ability to automatically receive recommended demos and software using SpotPass.
  • The ability to disable Nintendo ID use via smartphone or web browser
  • USB keyboard support
  • A dedicated friend list icon on the Wii U Menu

Actor David Zayas (aka cop Angel Batista from Dexter) has joined the cast of Sony's Annie remake.

In this latest take, Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as the titular little orphan Annie, with Jamie Foxx as the Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks character (renamed Benjamin Stacks in this version). According to THR, Zayas will play Lou, "the local bodega owner who is a friend to Annie and has a crush on Miss Hannigan."

When Can We Start Playing GTA Online?
Oct 1st 2013, 00:12, by Mitch Dyer

Grand Theft Auto Online will go live on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network at 4am Pacific / 7am Eastern / 12pm Greenwich Mean Time on October 1, Rockstar Games has confirmed to IGN.

The GTA 5 multiplayer add-on will come in the form of a Title Update on both platforms. Anyone who owns GTA 5 will be accessible via the game menu once the multiplayer game rolls out.

GTA Online, you may recall, takes place months before the in-game events of GTA 5's main story, and lets 16 players make a mess of Los Santos together with odd jobs, bounties, heists, sports, stick-ups, and, later in an update, in competitive games of Capture the Flag.

Rockstar anticipates that the first couple weeks will need tuning "as it goes from internal testing to the reality of being played by tons of people in the real world." While you wait for the update, check out the 10 insane things we saw in GTA Online, and read IGN's GTA Online Release Schedule wiki.

Disney's Live-Action Cruella de Vil Movie
Oct 1st 2013, 00:16, by Max Nicholson

Following in the evil footsteps of Disney's upcoming Maleficent movie, the studio is now prepping a live-action film based on another classic villainess: Cruella de Vil.

THR reports that Aline Brosh McKenna, who also wrote Kenneth Branagh's upcoming Cinderella movie, has been tapped to write the screenplay for Cruella, which will bring the fur-worshipping fashionista from 101 Dalmatians to life in a new feature film.

The character originated in Dodie Smith's 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians, but was made famous in Disney's 1961 animated movie 101 Dalmatians. This won't be Cruella's first live-action appearance either; Glenn Close portrayed the character in 1996's 101 Dalmatians and its sequel 102 Dalmatians.

Avengers 2: James Spader Talks Ultron
Oct 1st 2013, 00:02, by Max Nicholson

It's been about a month since we learned that James Spader will be playing the villainous robot Ultron in Joss Whedon and Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron. During a promo circuit for his new TV show The Blacklist, Spader gave an update on Avengers 2, noting that he's already begun preparing for his role.

James Spader was Joss Whedon's First Pick for Ultron

"I have spoken to Joss Whedon about it," Spader told The Inquirer. "Just this weekend I went in for them to take very extensive photographs, head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I'm gonna fit in this Ultron character!"

Captain Phillips Review
Sep 30th 2013, 23:51, by Matt Patches

This review is part of IGN's 2013 New York Film Festival coverage

Tom Hanks spends most of Captain Phillips with a gun in his face. In a recreation of the 2009 Somali pirate siege of Captain Richard Phillips' ship, the MV Maersk Alabama, Bourne Ultimatum and United 93 director Paul Greengrass keeps one pointed at our foreheads too. At least it feels like it, with Greengrass adapting action filmmaking tactics to drops us in the middle of this high-tension situation. Stay all the way through Captain Phillips' credits; your heart will need the cool down period.

The danger is real in Captain Phillips — and not simply because what we see really happened. Run-of-the-mill action movies have killers descending on unknowing prey, slow burn searches through dimly-lit corridors, and standoffs set to the booming beats of a ticking clock. The difference is Captain Phillips immerses every character, "good" and "bad," into a pressure cooker and hands them AK47s. Greengrass and screenwriter Billy Ray clash the American crewmen and the impoverished Somalis without ever reducing them to stereotypes. The movie is a deconstructed thriller that allows people to act like people, with Hanks and newcomer Barkhad Abdi, as the Somali captain, delivering two riveting performances.

Microsoft's Streaming Service May Be Called 'Rio'
Sep 30th 2013, 23:02, by Mike Mahardy

A recent demo at Microsoft's annual company meeting may have leaked the rumored cloud streaming service, along with more information regarding the service.

The cloud service, formerly known as "Ridgeway," is now called "Rio," CNet reports.

The service will, reportedly, allow Microsoft to stream games over the internet to various devices, such as Windows phones or Windows on PC. The Verge reported last week that Halo 4 was shown in a Rio demo, and that the game ran smoothly on both the phone and PC in question.

We Are Men: Series Premiere Review
Sep 30th 2013, 15:42, by Matt Fowler

Advance Review: Honestly, with a title like We Are Men, and the basic premise of four bachelors (i.e. "survivors of multiple failed marriages"), this new CBS single-camera sitcom had the potential to be far more asinine than it actually is. Which could have helped the show out a little bit, perhaps giving it an offensive edge that would stir up controversy. Or hurt it more by making the show needlessly reprehensible. And, let's face it, deplorable comedy on CBS gets an automatic pass.

As it stands though, We Are Men just plays as bland and milquetoast as its lead (actor Chris Smith), featuring a ton of jokes, set-ups and scenarios that you've seen a hundred times before in many other shows and movies. It's a hodge-podge of mediocrity designed to go down like a chewy children's vitamin - with, of course, the underlying message that women are all soul-sucking demons designed to prevent men from having any fun.
