Green Arrow #25 Review

GA_Cv25_fyiuayub0t_Usually, the flashback segments are the strongest portion of any episode of Arrow. So why not devote an entire issue of Green Arrow to flashing back to the origins of the Oliver Queen/John Diggle partnership? But while a one-shot flashback storyline is certainly justified, the Zero Year tie-in is less so. This is an issue that succeeds despite the tie-in rather than because of it.

Jeff Lemire's script is pretty straightforward here. No sooner does Ollie return to Seattle from his years on the island than he discovers his mother and her security team are trapped in Gotham City following Riddler's attack in Batman #24. Cue a brief team-up between Green Arrow, Diggle, and Batman as a new villain enters the stage. Nowhere does this story really need the Batman/Gotham component, and remaining within Green Arrow's world might have allowed Lemire more breathing room in the story. But still, the script is engaging and quickly builds a strong dynamic between Ollie and Diggle, as well as Ollie and Moira.
