As it turns out, Sid Meier's Ace Patrol's mixture of turn-based tactical combat and quick, level-to-level progression works just as well on a PC as it does on iOS. This $10 Steam version includes full campaigns for the British, French, Americans, and Germans, (which are sold separately on the mobile version) and while the repetitive mission structure gets tedious, the battles themselves never do. This is turn-based dogfighting done right.
