The long-awaited film adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel Ender's Game opened in first place at the North American box office this weekend with an estimated $28 million. That's a solid number, but considering the film's $100 million price tag and a certain Marvel god of thunder hitting theaters next weekend, Ender's Game will need to hold well in the coming weeks if it wants to be deemed a hit.
Last weekend's champ, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, slipped to second place with a strong $20.5 million.
The weekend's other new releases Last Vegas and Free Birds debuted with $16.5 million and $16.2 million for third and fourth place, respectively.
