The Vampire Diaries is back and… Whoa, Matt and Rebekah are having a threesome with some random European girl!

Sorry, just got a bit distracted. Though seriously, that was a surprise, huh? This show certainly is pushing the content boundary levels for 8pm, network TV.

What I enjoyed about the premiere is how almost everything we saw actually turned out to be important. Even that aforementioned random threesome gal, Nadia, turned out to have an agenda, returning with a pal to do something to poor, human punching bag Matt. Though hey… he did get a threesome out of the deal first!

At first, it seemed strange to even introduce a third roommate for Elena and Caroline as they began college, if she was just going to be killed right away. But thankfully, even in death, it seems she's going to be part of a much bigger storyline, as Elena learned this girl somehow knew her father. Was she a sister Elena never knew? It's all pretty curious, given Megan (RIP, we hardly knew ye) seemed to be aware of vampires, considering she had vervain in her drinks. But it would still be strange if Megan were so aware of the vampire world and was taken out so quickly without even having one conversation about it. I wonder if perhaps someone else was trying to protect her from afar?
