So much of Glare revolves waving around a flashlight of sorts that I wouldn't be surprised if Maglite contacted developer Phobic Studios in the hopes of some kind of cross-promotion. You shine it when blasting aliens, you shine it when jumping from anchor points embedded in walls, and you even shine it to make bouncy plants appear from the shadows. Good thing, then, that much of experience itself shines during its short running time, even if it phones in its boss fights and replay value is dim.
If you want, story, Glare's got one, although it doesn't extend much beyond the opening cinematic's premise of eradicating purple baddies called the Ramora, who're infecting planets across the galaxy. Do the powers that be send in a team of intrepid scientists aimed with an agent that kills the slimes while leaving the local flora and fauna intact? Of course not. Instead, they send a single scrappy fighter known as the Shiner who looks like a forgotten villain from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. All that follows is the singular drive to kill the purple blobs, and the four-stage hunt unfolds across pleasingly varied landscapes ranging from forests and deserts to icy wastelands and volcanoes.
