Including the 2002 TV movie -- and not including the 1999-sequel-but-come-on-it-was basically-a-remake, The Rage: Carrie 2 -- this is the third version of Stephen King's Carrie to get a screen adaption... And that's on top of an ill-fated Broadway musical! At this point, the story of a teenage girl with amazing telekinetic abilities, raised by a dangerously fanatical religious mother, has been covered pretty well by now. So if you're going to do a new, big screen, high profile version of Carrie, one would hope you'd do something new with it.
Certainly the 2013 version has notable talent attached, with Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore starring as Carrie and her mother, Margaret White, and director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry) bringing a lot of credibility to the project. However, the team-up of these talented women has resulted in something just… okay. The new Carrie has too much of a going through the motions feel to it, as we go through this very familiar story, towards its inevitable conclusion.
