The best thing about Skylanders is how it just doesn't care that robots and dragons and roller skaters might not really make much sense together in the same story. In a way, it's right in line with the way kids play; my kids' rooms are packed with spaceships and samurais and super heroes, and they think nothing of mashing them all together at every opportunity. Skylanders Swap Force 3DS not only gets that, but pushes the concept even further with swappable characters that allow us to mix and match body parts for an entirely new line of Skylanders.
The swapping allows you to tailor the game to your style. As a result, I ended up feeling that the characters are a little more generic and less personalized in their abilities. That said, there's lots of choice in the Skylanders roster, even if you just limit yourself to the new toys released with this version. Rollerskating zombie girls, blade-flinging storm chickens, octopus pirates, and a host of other heroes make it a safe bet that there's something that resonates with just about every player.
