Suicide Squad #20 Review

Suicide Squad has been in need of an overhaul since the New 52 kicked off. That overhaul has finally arrived with issue #20. The cast and general direction of the book haven't necessarily changed. It's the new creative team that makes all the difference.

New writer Ales Kot kicks off his run with the same sort of downtime issue we saw several times during the Adam Glass era. This actually makes for a poor transition from Glass' final issue, which ended with the search for Regulus being cut short and Unknown Soldier appearing out of nowhere and apparently taking charge of the team. Here, Amanda Waller is still firmly in charge, being aided by both Unknown Soldier and a mystery player in psychologically deconstructing the team. But once readers get past the familiar format and lack of closure to the previous storyline, there's a lot to enjoy.
