Chris Columbus, who has directed films including the first two Harry Potters, a couple of Home Alones, the first Percy Jackson, and most importantly, Adventures in Babysitting, is in talks to helm Pixels for Columbia Pictures and Adam Sandler's Happy Madison production company.
Pixels is an adaptation of the Internet short of the same name that went viral a couple of years ago. It depicts old-school game characters overtaking New York City in spectacular fashion. Watch the original short below:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "the producers and the studio are aiming to do a Ghostbusters-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world." Discussions with Columbus are said to be in the early stages, but not surprisingly it sounds like the studio is looking for a franchise-starter for this property.
