TMNT: "Invasion of the Squirrelanoids" Review

After unintentionally unleashing a whole pile of mutagen canisters across New York City, it was time for the Turtles to clean house. In this week's episode, the green team picked up the trail of a mutated squirrel... but ended up with an unfortunate homeless guy. Before long, though, it was clear that "Invasion of the Squirrelanoids" wasn't just another freak-of-the-week episode -- it was almost a direct sendup of Ridley Scott's Aliens franchise.

Admittedly, I was a bit hesitant about another '80s genre flick parody, since "Cockroach Terminator" was one of my least favorite episodes from Season 1. However, the show's previous attempt at parody in "Parasitica" was much stronger, and I think this week's episode did a good job in being more self-aware, using Michelangelo's horror comic book as a blueprint for the escalating events. This was also a good way of setting up Mikey as the inevitable savior, as he consistently stayed one step ahead of his brothers. ("I'm not going to say this happened in my comic... but this happened in my comic!")
