New Girl: "The Box" Review

So, this week's "The Box" was kind of all over the place in terms of episodic structure. Essentially, we had two main storylines going, one for Schmidt and one for Nick and Jess. (Surprise -- Winston piggybacked on both of them.) However, this episode began with a promising cold open, as Nick's late father left him a bag full of money.

For his part, I liked the idea that Nick wouldn't want to spend any of his newfound cash on practical items like unpaid bills, parking tickets and the like, instead resorting to buying himself lavish gifts akin to fancy framed portraits surrounded by raw crystals. I also liked the initial tag-team between Jess and Winston, who both went behind Nick's back to put his money to good use, all while Nick got loaded at the bar to monologue about precious metals and paper currency.
