Whether you're a devotee of digital or proponent or print, you can't deny that digital comics are here to stay. At Marvel's House of Ideas panel at NYCC, creators and editors discussed what they're doing to appeal to an audience that's consuming more and more content on their mobile devices. Moderator Ryan Penagos led the panel featuring writers Kieron Gillen and Al Ewing, Ron Perazza (Director of Digital Innovation), and T.Q. Jefferson (Vice President of Production for Marvel Games). On the docket were Infinite Comics, digital initiatives, and new games and video projects.
As a medium, comics haven't really changed in decades, though the tides are slowly changing. If you've been reading Marvel's Infinite Comics line, you'll already be familiar with the way they're adapting stories to be read specifically on mobile devices. "They make use of some of the transitions that can happen that can't happen on a printed page," Perazza said. "We can bring in speech balloons and text boxes. We can do a little bit of a parallax effect."
