Comic book events just aren't as exciting as they used to be. Back in 2005, I lived in Yellowstone for a summer and regularly made the two-hour drive into Bozeman, MT in order to stay caught up with House of M. No sooner did that event wrap up by decimating the X-Men than Infinite Crisis grabbed my attention with its promises of delivering an epic saga that spanned the entire DC Universe. But events just don't hold the same appeal anymore. Maybe it's the formulaic approach to storytelling. Maybe it's the way they seem to derail the momentum of perfectly good ongoing series. Maybe it's the fact that recent events tend to ship on condensed schedules, with new chapters hitting every week or two. There's less time to build up anticipation for new issues, and less to anticipate in the first place.
