Boardwalk Empire: "William Wilson" Review

Though the title of this week's Boardwalk Empire episode, "William Wilson" (based on the Poe short story), would suggest a theme of doppelgängers, the motif seemed to be "guys leaving the room in a huff." From William moping out of his literature class, and then later storming out of his house, to Agent Knox (aka Agent James Tolliver) angrily leaving the premises after Hoover took all the credit for uncovering Nucky's network of "organized crime (if you will)." Some of these tantrums were draining to watch while others were more enlightening.

While anything involving William's stubborn attitude - which has now transformed into a depressed stubborn attitude (great) - was a trudge, Knox's newfound disillusionment might wind up offering Nucky an escape route. Eli, keen to spot mistakes, directly followed up with Nucky about the monogramed handkerchief, and Nucky took it to Gaston Means. But then we discovered that Means was working with Knox, and using his influence to try and make Nucky forget all about the monogram. So it seems like Knox's slip up won't be his undoing. But now that he openly resents his old law school buddy Hoover, and will likely undermine him in the future, Knox will most likely wind up shooting himself in the foot. Either through trying to sabotage Hoover or outshine him. Despite the fact that Hoover's been the only man so far who's gotten George Remus to stop referring to himself in the third person!
