Falling Skies: Season Premiere Review

Note: Full spoilers for the Falling Skies: Season 3 premiere follow.

The first hour of Falling Skies third season premiere, which was made up of two episodes, kicks off seven months removed from 2nd Mass's sudden encounter with a strange new life form. It's a little jarring at first, it feels as if an entire season's worth of content has passed us by, but the first hour does an adequate job of filling in all the important details.

Just like last season's premiere, Season 3 opens up with a visually impressive large-scale battle, this time however; it's the resistance that has the upper hand. Outfitted with alien weapons from their new friends, the Volm, the resistance handles themselves well, even when dealing with an unexpected ambush from a new form of Skitter tech – Mega Mechs. There has been a lot of rumble that this season will be larger in scale than the last two, and if the first ten minutes are any indication, it certainly seems to be true. Effects wise and action wise the notch does seem to be turned up. That being said, I'm sure there still will be two or three "bottle" episodes to balance out the budget.
