Let's pretend for a moment that World War Z is simply a zombie-fueled first-person action-adventure game and not the tie-in for a movie based on a book. Because by those standards it would actually come in well above expectations, but removing that handicap reveals a repetitious game with a few good sights and an uninteresting story.
We play as Doug, a man on a mission to rescue his son, inconveniently stranded on the other side of the mid-apocalyptic world. It's a fairly mundane story, complete with drop-in drop-out characters and a disjointed plot filled with "oh by the way" moments. For example, it'll introduce random people that Doug knows from his past with little to no context - bizarre, considering Doug isn't a character from the film. It's still possible to have fun with World War Z, however. It just requires paying less attention to the story and having a soft spot for exploration.
