TNT's hit series Falling Skies returns for Season 3 this Sunday, June 9th, continuing the story of Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) and his fellow human resistance members taking on the alien race that have conquered most of the Earth. Season 3 picks up several months later with some big changes – Tom is now the de facto president, having been put in charge in Charleston, the human settlement discovered in Season 2. And a new alien race, the Volm, who arrived in Season 2's final moments, are now fighting alongside the humans.
I sat down with Wyle to discuss the show's storylines this year, including the input they got from executive producer Steven Spielberg, Tom as president and the integral new character, Cochise, the Volm leader (played by Hellboy's Doug Jones). Wyle and I also touched upon the future of Falling Skies, as David Eick (Battlestar Galactica) prepares to take over as showrunner for the departing Remi Aubuchon for Season 4.
