Avengers Arena continues to be a roller coaster of expectations and quality as we get a Nico-centric chapter that is, beat for beat, totally freaking awesome. Dennis Hopeless really hits his stride here by making all of the characters pay for the consequences of last issue in brutal and unexpected ways. Seriously, I gasped, I laughed, and I cried.
It's unfortunate that this series seems so hit-or-miss. Sometimes Hopeless totally nails an issue and blows your mind, defying all the haters of his Battle Royale/Hunger Games concept by showing he really knows his stuff. But then there's times where the deaths don't feel earned or a character is totally off base. Luckily, this is the former.
