Some criminologists think that we're close to seeing the likes of Robocop and Escape From New York go from being far-fetched sci-fi to a reality.
The Atlantic has an interesting rundown on which crime prevention tactics from futuristic dystopia movies -- including the aforementioned duo as well as Dredd 3D, Minority Report, The Running Man and new release The Purge -- have the best chance of actually happening based on interviews with criminologists.
