Over the years, many a great sci-fi film's arrival was trumpeted by its poster. Obviously this has been true for any kind of movie, especially in the pre-Internet age, but in particular science-fiction films and their otherworldly, far-out subject matter have always been great fodder for some remarkable one-sheets.
And, of course, the 1980s was also a time when many of our favorite sci-fi films were released. It was a notably pre-Photoshop era, meaning that the floating heads and samey debris storms that populate so many posters these days were not around, and very often actual pieces of art were created as the basis of the posters instead.
