Community: "Heroic Origins" Review

This was kind of a messy episode of Community, though in the ends, the strengths outweighed the weaknesses. There were certainly some fun and funny moments, but it also felt rather disjointed. The idea of going back and doing this kind of fill in the blanks flashback episode felt a bit forced, and luckily, this being Community, that was acknowledged by Abed, with lines like, "I wanted to make a prequel and I ruined everything."

I enjoyed the Troy and Annie flashbacks the most, just because we've known since the pilot they went to high school together. Finally seeing glimpses at that dynamic was appreciated, as was the look back at Troy the Jock, and the acknowledgement of how much he's changed. And yes, Troy, I would like to see your Juno impression! Annie crashing through the glass door funny in and of itself was an entertainingly over the top comedic moment – and then when she mentioned she had to have "six different reconstructive surgeries," got hilariously realistic with what might happen if you actually smashed through a glass door in real life.
