In a recent deal between Virgin Produced and Overbrook Entertainment, it was suggested that a sequel to Will Smith's After Earth may already be in development.
Although After Earth isn't due out in theaters until May 31, the studios' new pact allows Virgin the option to co-produce, co-finance and co-market a potential After Earth 2. This agreement will begin with the first film's release.
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, After Earth centers on teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith), who are both stranded on Earth 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape. The father and son must work together if they want any chance of returning home.
