The iPhone has grown into such a splendid device for throwback 2D platformers that I'm beginning to wonder if it's even accurate to call these retro releases throwbacks at all. The classic genre is officially back in full force. Renegade Kid's Mutant Mudds is the latest example - a "kind-of" 2D side-scroller which started life on Nintendo's 3DS eShop. The game places you in control of Max, a boy who sets out to dispense the evil mud rampaging throughout the world. Evil mud being mud after all, Max is equipped with a trusty water cannon, a convenient hovering jetpack and some upgrades to each that you'll earn by spending diamonds in Grannie's Attic, the in-game shop.
