Supernatural: "As Time Goes By" Review

As soon as the "Then" portion from this week's Supernatural started up, I had a good feeling about the episode. Going all the way back to the earliest seasons of the show, the clips from previous episodes focused on John Winchester and the job of "saving people, hunting things" that he had trained his sons to do. Sam and Dean have saved a lot of people and hunted a lot of things since the beginning of the series, but with the introduction of Henry Winchester, their paternal grandfather, we were introduced to a new side of the supernatural battle.

Gil McKinney played the young Henry, who escaped an attack by the demon Abaddon by leaving 1958 and landing in 2013. He was looking for his son John, but found his grandsons instead. It is a testament to how powerful a character John Winchester was that here we are, six seasons after his death, and the fact that Henry appeared out of nowhere was startling, but what really gave the moment its tension was that he asked for John.
