FX's pilot for their adaptation of the Brian Bendis/Michael Avon Oeming comic book Powers was shot in the summer of 2011, but as recently as this past summer, FX's president, John Landgraf, said they were still developing Powers as a potential series – though it would involve big changes from their initial approach, including recasting. However, given how long it had been since Powers had begun development at the cable network, when I spoke to Landgraf this week at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, I went into the conversation assuming the project was likely now dead.
As a fan of the source material, I was happy to discover that wasn't the case at all, as Landgraf revealed Bendis was working with a new writer on a completely new approach on the material, about homicide detectives who work superhero-related cases.
