This week, CBS brings us Under the Dome, an adaptation of Stephen King's novel about a quaint Maine town getting sealed off from the rest of the world by a giant, invisible bubble. The premiere episode, which you can read the IGN advance review of, definitely gives off the impression that Under the Dome just might be the most successful, and satisfying, King-to-TV adaptation to date.
Because there have been many many TV King adaptations. Reaching back more than thirty years. And they all haven't been that great; mostly adhering to the unfortunate truth that King stories, while wildly effective on page, can sometimes come off campy and hokey on screen. No, not all have been dogs - or "Cujos" - but they also haven't been able to relay the basic horror and scares of the books.
