When you hear the words "Disney movie," one thing pops into your mind: animation. Whether it be the (superior) hand-drawn days of old or the Disney-Pixar era, the studio is renowned for its leadership in animation. Since Disney acquired Marvel, we've all been anxiously awaiting announcements of what they would do with the properties in terms of feature-length animation.
Well, the official announcement is out of the bag, and we can look forward to Big Hero 6 in 2014.
Yep, Big Hero 6. I have no particular affinity for the property, but I absolutely love what it seems to indicate. It's probable that we'd never see a Big Hero 6 live-action movie, which tells me that maybe – just maybe – Walt Disney Animation Studios will be using this format to put the lesser known Marvel properties to good use. Things like Runaways that have struggled to get off the ground in recent years could be revived as animated features with the intent of appealing to kids, perhaps even as something of a "proof of concept" to both audiences and the studio that a property is viable for expansion.
