Here's a deep, dark secret I have as a comic book fan: I have no particular affinity for Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver. I don't know if that's because I haven't read enough stories starring them (perhaps just not the right ones) or I simply don't find them all that interesting. Probably a mixture of both. I've never really thought about it, to be honest. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are characters that I see pop up in the stories I read, but I never find myself contemplating their characters beyond the moment my eyes are looking at them on the page.
And yet, in this week alone I've spent more time thinking about Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver than I have in my entire life up to this point. As you might have heard, it's a very real possibility that we'll be seeing two different incarnations of Quicksilver – and presumably Scarlet Witch, as they're sort of a pair – on the big screen. We've known for a bit that Joss Whedon had plans to introduce the siblings in The Avengers 2, but it seems in an escalation of the great spitting contest between Marvel and FOX, Quicksilver has been a late-in-the-game addition to X-Men: Days of Future Past. Reportedly, this is FOX throwing down the gauntlet.
