Franco Takes on Gatsby Critics

The Great Gatsby has been one of the more divisive films released this year. Critics have been fairly mixed on Baz Luhrmann's anachronistic interpretation of author F. Scott Fitzgerald's now-classic exploration of the roar of the 1920s. The Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire starring film stands at 51% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and has a score of 55 out of 100 on Metacritic. The film surpassed box-office expectations its opening weekend, though, earning $50 million and is projected to take in roughly $20 million more by Sunday night.  In our review, we felt that Lurhmann's Gatsby may actually be similar to Fitzgerald's novel in the sense that the perception of its merits seem to be highly contested, and may evolve over time.
