Class will continue to be in session at Greendale! NBC has renewed Community for Season 5.
It's been quite a turbulent year off camera for Community, beginning with the show's renewal this time last year, which was quickly followed by the news that creator Dan Harmon had been taken off the show and several writer/producers were also leaving. Season 4 then saw the departure of Chevy Chase, after some rather well-documented incidents of displeasure with the series, while fans had to wait many months for the show to return, after it was delayed from a planned October debut.
While Community continued to have low ratings this year, it suddenly wasn't looking so bad compared to the rest of NBC's struggling schedule, especially with The Office and 30 Rock in their final seasons. Now, it's become only the second of NBC's current comedies to get a renewal, after Parks and Recreation, with everything else cancelled except for The New Normal, whose fate is still undecided.
