It's no secret that Marvel Studios watches the bottom line. Just ask Terrence Howard, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson, all of whom had very public flaps with Marvel over their salaries for their respective Marvel movies. Now comes word that several cast members are looking to play hardball for a bigger payday for Marvel's The Avengers 2 after the first film became the third highest-grossing movie of all time.
Several Avengers cast members reportedly remain unsigned for the sequel, with such major contractual issues as upfront pay, backend compensation, break even points and box office bonuses still on the table.
Although some cast members are understandably steamed that some of them were only paid $200,000 for Marvel's The Avengers while Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. walked away with $50 million, the cast is nevertheless said to be relying on Downey to have their backs in pushing Marvel for better pay for his co-stars next time around.
