It feels like it's been over a thousand generations since Star Wars: Episode VII was first announced. And with nary a snippet of Star Wars movie news at D23, fans are beginning to wonder what gives. Many assumed that Episode VII would hit theaters in May 2015 (seeing as how all previous Star Wars films have been released during that month) but as suspected, that may be cutting it close.
Now, according to insiders close to the project, Disney is eying a mid-December 2015 release for Star Wars, possibly December 15, 2015.
This would certainly be a change of pace for the longstanding franchise, but it also might be a smart move on Disney's part. As it stands, the studio already has two big summer blockbusters lined up for 2015 -- Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Pirates of the Caribbean 5. That's not to mention rival tentpoles such as Man of Steel 2, Terminator 5, Independence Day 2 and others.
