Talk about thankless tasks: Announcing that you're remaking a game roundly remembered as one of the most culturally insensitive in video game history probably ranks right up there with being a Virtual Boy repairman. And yet, publisher Devolver Digital and developer Flying Wild Hog (Hard Reset) are reimagining Shadow Warrior, 3D Realms' infamous 1997 shooter that attempted to replicate the politically incorrect, over-the-top action of the company's earlier smash Duke Nukem 3D with a demon-slaying Asian stereotype named Lo Wang (get it?).

To its credit, the earlier Shadow Warrior was also a fun shooter that mixed Kill Bill-ish lethality with supernatural elements, which is what inspired the team at Flying Wild Hog to revisit Lo Wang's world, taking the elements that made the first game great and modernizing them. This time, though, the humor will remain tongue-in-cheek, but without the fortune cookie zingers and cheap caricatures.
