Since Final Fantasy XIII was announced back in 2006, Lightning has become a major staple in Square Enix's roster of Final Fantasy heroes, going on to star in two sequels and appear in multiple Final Fantasy spinoffs like Dissidia 012 and Theatrhythm. After working with the character for the better part of a decade, Square Enix is understandably emotional about saying goodbye when her journey comes to an end in the upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
