How Did The World's End Do This Weekend? Aug 26th 2013, 05:00, by Jim Vejvoda Last weekend's champ Lee Daniels' The Butler remained the No. 1 movie at the North American box office this weekend with $17 million, while The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones enjoyed the biggest but not particularly best debut among the crop of new releases with a third place finish of $9.3 million. The Mortal Instruments opened Wednesday and has earned $14 million since then, a poor showing for the would-be franchise starter. Director Edgar Wright's The World's End opened in fourth place with $8.9 million, opening in half the theaters that The Mortal Instruments did and yet was right on its heels all weekend.
