M. Night Shyamalan may have built his career on making movies, but the writer-director's latest project is something completely different: a nonfiction book about public education reform called I Got Schooled: The Unlikely Story of How a Moonlighting Movie Maker Learned the Five Keys to Closing America's Education Gap.
Since when did Shyamlan take an interest in education reform? Well, according to the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation website, the filmmaker spent time in two Philadelphia-area schools while location scouting for a film. Taking note of the striking differences between the two institutions, Shyamlan resolved to study the education gap and formulate his own ideas for fixing America's broken school system.
