Indie developer Introversion has shown itself capable of creating thought-provoking entertainment from the most unlikely subject matter. From the Hollywood-style computer hacking of its debut title Uplink to the tit-for-tat nuclear warfare of DEFCON, Introversion has shown a flair for finding fun in the perverse. It's apparent from an early alpha build of Prison Architect that the British outfit is on track to do it again.
The opening campaign-style mission of Prison Architect raises as many questions as it answers. Put in charge of a small, pre-constructed prison, you're tasked with building an execution chamber to host Edward, a middle-aged man guilty of the double-murder of his wife and her lover. Going about this task, it's easy to get caught up in the minutiae of the game's building blocks and become preoccupied with the construction of foundations, the placement of floor-plans and the running of pipes and electricity cables to power the new construction rather than thinking about what you're actually being asked to do.
