Here's what StarDrive is: think of literally any space 4X strategy game made since the mid-1990s, now take away anything that made it special or different, and make it nearly impossible to finish off a game. Now you have StarDrive, and you know why it fails to live up to the famous Master of Orion-style games it borrows its design from. It is the gas station hamburger of space 4X games.

Need more detail? Okay, but I tried to spare us both. You choose from one of eight different spacefaring races (or customize your own) each with their own traits – but nothing in this decision really matters much. Regardless of bonuses, every race quickly converges on a fairly generic approach to galactic conquest thanks to StarDrive's dearth of victory conditions and its uninteresting, predictable tech tree. No matter which race you play, you'll still be either conquering the galaxy or trying to unite it into a grand alliance, so there can't be any diversity in play styles.
