Nintendo will be in a unique position at this year's E3. The gaming giant was the first out to bat in the latest console cycle, releasing the Wii U nearly six months ago to less than flattering sales results. Meanwhile, the inevitable launch of both Sony and Microsoft's next gen boxes looms around the corner, meaning the gaming landscape will soon have two fierce new competitors on the block.
In other words, the company is entering E3 season with a chip on its shoulder and something to prove, much like Michelle Rodriguez in a bad action movie. But is Nintendo taking the proper amount of ammo to the show?
Modern launches are a tricky business. With more advanced hardware and increasing consumer expectations, it takes a fair amount of time and investment to get even a single title out the door. This rule counts double for a company like Nintendo, which is willing to delay a game as long as it takes to ensure its quality. Of course, when the games do arrive, they're usually worth the wait. But as Wii U owners well know, there is an unfortunate side effect to this process.
