The Big Bang Theory: "The Scavenger Vortex" Review

We're in season 7 of The Big Bang Theory now. Any series that lasts this long is in increasing danger of growing stagnant and predictable, two adjectives that could definitely apply to certain episodes of this show. Luckily, the writers seem conscious of the need to shake things up more this season in terms of the character relationships. The premiere emphasized the Sheldon/Penny pairing in Leonard's absence, which is always good for a few chuckles. But "The Scavenger Vortex" really played on the idea of nontraditional character pairings. That alone was enough to make this episode stand out.

The actual concept of a group scavenger hunt as the overarching conflict of the week was a bit flimsy. Frankly, I would have been more interested in seeing Raj act out his murder mystery dinner. But it did what it needed to as far as breaking the gang off into unique pairs. The scavenger hunt also allowed the characters to leave the familiar apartment sets and venture out into the world, even if most of their pit stops included the usual suspects - Stuart's comic shop, the laundry room, Penny's bizarrely spacious and laid back Cheesecake Factory, etc.
