Warning: Full spoilers for the True Blood Season 6 premiere follow...
"True Blood is back!" is a statement that, once upon a time, used to excite and titillate. But after the Season 6 premiere, "Who Are You, Really?," I think it's safe to say that the base joy that viewers experienced with this series - the fun, sassy, gaudiness - is all but gone now. What we've been given in its place is a bunch of spinning wheels (which have been spinning in place for several seasons now) and a bad boy/good boy reversal of Sookie's vampire beaus, where Eric has now become the uncharacteristically earnest hero and Bill has become the mysterious, gruff domineering one.
So the idea that Bill was going to become the full-fledged villain of Season 6 has been put on hold (for now) as the writers have decided that it probably wouldn't behoove the series to take one of their main stars and have him growl and hiss for an entire summer. So they've reverted Bill back to a mostly-normal state where he gets to talk and have scenes with other characters while still being, for whatever reason, Lilith's puppet. Nora claims that Lilith incarnate - "Billith" - will destroy all humans and vampires alike, but we're still not sure how or when that'll happen. Or why. Just that, for the sake of the story device, she's going to just pop in and out of Bill whenever she feels like it.
