Nikita: "Intersection" Review

Nikita returned from its way-too-long winter hiatus with an intense hour (originally intended to be last month's cliffhanger) focused on trust that ended with Nikita making the brutal decision to save Michael's life by cutting off his hand. I said a few weeks ago that this show works better when everyone's guts are ripped out, so this is a good thing (sorry, Michael).

Probably my favorite thing about this episode was seeing the many sides of ruthless Amanda. I especially loved that moment when she was kind of geeking out about being in the same position Nikita was when she was running from capture and attacking Division, like some kind of obsessed fan. She was so glib and almost uninterested in Sonya's plight (while weirdo Anne almost seemed to be rooting for the girl to come up with some good dirt and stave off cancellation). The always fabulous Melinda Clarke's "bored-now" delivery of the line "I hate Serbia" made me laugh out loud but minutes later I found myself feeling surprisingly sorry for Amanda as she watched Anne die at Nikita's hand. We already know that Amanda doesn't want Nikita killed until she's been made to suffer, but tonight touched on Amanda's deep desire for Nikita to acknowledge her role in creating Nikita, which was explored so beautifully in last season's outstanding "Power." Amanda's more like a spurned lover than an old boss. It's gorgeously twisted.
