Doctor Who Goes 3D

To celebrate the show's 50th anniversary, Doctor Who is heading into UK cinemas and making the move to 3D.

A special episode will be aired in both theatres and on BBC HD on November 23, 50 years to the day since the first instalment was aired.

Speaking about the special, the show's lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat said "It's about time. Technology has finally caught up with Doctor Who and your television is now bigger on the inside. A whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore."

As for the content of the episode, it sounds like that's yet to be decided.

"There will be lots of aliens and daleks and things" the BBC's controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson told The Guardian. "Or maybe there won't. There are many differently things to take into account and we will also have a Christmas special after that and it all connects. Or maybe it doesn't. There's lots to work out."
