Harbinger feels like the heart and center of the Valiant universe. This title is where it all begins and where everything meets. The story of a group of misfit, super-powered kids trying to find their place in the world is hardly a new one. But it's done so well here that you can't help but enjoy yourself. There's so much character in these pages; so much to love. If only more comics could be like Harbinger – or any Valiant title for that matter – the industry would be in a better place.
Joshua Dysart has really found the voice of these characters. Harbinger is an ensemble book (calling it a team book doesn't quite fit) and as new characters join, the book gets better. It was fine when it focused on Pete, but it's great now that Faith and Charlene have come on board. The only problem with this issue is the pop culture references. Bringing up the Kardashians and Jersey Shore might seem relevant now, but it really dates the story. In a few years, these people and shows (hopefully) won't be something everyone is familiar with. The story is better off without them, really.
