After delivering one underwhelming issue after another, Green Lantern: New Guardians has pulled off the impossible by giving a surprisingly good conclusion to what has been a rushed and unengaging story arc. Given how well Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps also performed this week, it should be no surprise that this title found its saving grace in an emotionally charged conclusion that really came out of nowhere.
The number one reason this title has been on the upswing is Aaron Kuder's pitch-perfect art. His clean and expressive style gels with Kyle Rayner's sensibilities, plus his take on how the different Lanterns use their powers is refreshingly creative. There's one flashback page where Kyle looks older and balding instead of young and exuberant, but other than that Kuder just kills it, especially the end battle sequence complemented by Wil Quintana's glorious colors.
