Last week, Warner Bros.' The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey became the fifteenth feature film in history to earn $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Of course, prior to Avatar in 2009, only three movies had reached that coveted milestone: Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. However, thanks to the boom of 3D ticket sales and a drastically improved foreign market, it's not quite as impossible as it once was to earn $1 billion (especially if you're a blockbuster sequel).
