New Avengers #4 Review

While the main Avengers title's claim to fame is its expansive cast, it so far doesn't seem to be doing it any favors. As things stand, Jonathan Hickman's New Avengers is where it's at. The small cast allows for razor sharp characterization and an intimate focus on a universal threat. It also doesn't hurt that Steve Epting is absolutely killing it on art.

Hickman uses New Avengers to show us the other side of the superhero coin. The scary side. These community leaders are all geniuses in their respective fields, but when tasked with a threat like this, it's chill-inducing to hear the words coming out of their mouths. The horror comes from how cold their logic sounds, but also how in character all of it is.
