I have to say, I'm really enjoying Dexter's time with Dr. Vogel. Yes, some of her clinical speak comes off a little too on the nose at times -- a bit over explain-y -- but the best part of "What's Eating Dexter Morgan?" was how much Vogel was caught off guard by Dexter's seemingly genuine feelings for Deb. Because, to me, this specific subject (Dexter having feelings, being capable of love/empathy) has always been a part of the show that I felt the writers were mishandling. Dexter simply wasn't the monster he constantly claimed to be in his voice-over narrations. Sure, back in the pilot episode he said "If I could have feelings at all, I'd have them for Deb," but over the past eight years he's evolved. He's grown. And some of the show's biggest missteps have been when it failed to acknowledge it, or conveniently forgot about it.
